Register for January Meeting

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season spending time with family and friends. I am very excited to take on the role of Chapter President this year and being involved in a new way.

For those of you who do not know me, I have been involved in the insurance industry for over 10 years, all of that time working at Nationwide. Starting out of college, I began in the actuarial pricing Department working on personal lines home and auto rate reviews. I held various roles within pricing for a little over 5 years before moving to Nationwide Affinity Solutions where I am now the Director of Business Intelligence, focusing on reporting, diagnostic analytics, and data governance.

Outside of Nationwide I have been very involved with the local and national CPCU Society, serving in various roles. Currently I am serving as the chair of the National New Designee Committee where we focus on new designee conversion and hosting the New Designee Open House at the annual meeting. I am also involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa as a Big for over 7 years and I am currently sitting on their Board of Directors. Lastly, I am very happy to announce the birth of my first son, Adam “AJ” Robert Haugerud Jr. on December 13. Both mom and baby are doing great!

Last year was a great year for our chapter both in terms of amazing meetings and speakers, as well as having the third largest new designee class out of all CPCU chapters. A big “thank you” to Dalith Wells for all her work last year as President and making 2016 so successful!

This year we will continue to provide excellent meetings and trainings. Look for new ways for you to get involved with the chapter, in addition to the chapter getting more involved in the community through our Good Works efforts. Be sure to keep an eye out for information about I-Day which will include an additional event to celebrate our 65th anniversary this year.

To kick things off, please join us on January 24th at the Embassy Suites on the River for a lunch meeting at 11:30. Our speaker is Jeff Chelesvig, President and CEO of Des Moines Performing Arts, who will talk about the Des Moines Performing Arts organization and its associated risk management.

Lastly, I want to ask for your involvement and participation with the chapter. Whether it is attending more meetings (or perhaps your first) or getting involved with the Board, our chapter remains strong because of your dedication. Please reach out to me if you have any questions on getting involved. We currently have a couple positions open, including the Golf Event Chair and Ethics Chair, and we will never turn down any help, so if there is something of specific interest to you, don’t hesitate to ask.

- Adam Haugerud, President, Iowa CPCU Society Chapter
