Register for the April Meeting

Spring is officially here! The flowers and trees are blooming, and for many of us, it’s that time of year where we go on a cleaning spree. Opening the windows, pulling everything out, removing clutter, doing a few home improvements, and getting that ‘new house’ feel again.

Have you ever thought about what other things may need to be refreshed, decluttered, or maybe added on to? I am thinking about your insurance portfolio. How many years has it been since you last had a discussion about your coverages while comparing them to your current needs? I think back to last year’s I-Day when then Chapter President Dalith Wells talked about the importance of personal umbrella liability coverage and the large benefits it provides compared to the relatively small cost. I echo those words and take it a step further by asking you to review your entire portfolio. Even though we work in the Insurance Industry, like most people, we don’t have or take, the time to think about our individual needs and risks. I know I have had a homeowner policy for almost 10 years that has been on auto increase for inflation and have never asked if my coverage is enough or too much, so these comments are just as much to myself. Register for December Meeting

The holiday season will make the month of December speed by and my term as President complete. You may not know that I-Day is not just a one day event for a few of us. Ted Lussem, Kevin Seward and I had the opportunity to visit several companies on November 9th with Mike Koscielny, President Elect of the CPCU Society. We stopped at The IMT Group, EMC Insurance Companies, Grinnell Mutual, Nationwide, GuideOne and NCMIC and had to the chance to speak to new designees, members of the Iowa Chapter, future designees working towards their CPCU and executives of these companies to encourage participation in the Society and completion of the CPCU designation.

On November 10th we celebrated almost 50 of our new designees. You and our new designees are among 2% of the industry professionals with a CPCU. Congratulations to all. We hosted two speakers who talked to us about Personal Lines. Ray Thompson indicated that small companies can compete in this competitive market through local expertise, value added services and intelligent underwriting. Kim Hazelbaker encouraged us to review the top safety pick on the IIHS website to learn how safe your car is compared to others. [click to continue…]

November starts the busiest time of the year for all of us. The week of I-Day will be quite the week as we elect our next President. Additionally, I will visit companies across Iowa the day before I-Day to congratulate the new designees on November 9th.

Veterans Day and Thanksgiving also make this month special. Thank you to our Veterans who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Did you know that in 2019 this tradition of honoring our Veterans will be 100 years old?

We will continue our celebration for new designees at the I-Day conferment, on November 10, 2016 at Prairie Meadows starting at 8:00 AM. We still have space available for our meeting so sign up soon. Our topic will be Personal Lines and why it is important to you, the industry and what the future holds. We will also present the Burkhalter Award and the Circle of Excellence Award at this event.  [click to continue…]
