November starts the busiest time of the year for all of us. The week of I-Day will be quite the week as we elect our next President. Additionally, I will visit companies across Iowa the day before I-Day to congratulate the new designees on November 9th.

Veterans Day and Thanksgiving also make this month special. Thank you to our Veterans who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Did you know that in 2019 this tradition of honoring our Veterans will be 100 years old?

We will continue our celebration for new designees at the I-Day conferment, on November 10, 2016 at Prairie Meadows starting at 8:00 AM. We still have space available for our meeting so sign up soon. Our topic will be Personal Lines and why it is important to you, the industry and what the future holds. We will also present the Burkhalter Award and the Circle of Excellence Award at this event.  [click to continue…]

October 2016 Meeting Registration

Aloha kakou! This phrase means “greetings to all” in Hawaiian and was just one of the many interesting things I learned during our annual convention. The new designees descended on Honolulu, HI in September for the annual conferment. The record breaking final number of new designees was 7,523, with 12,000 people in attendance at the conferment ceremony. The featured speaker at the conferment, John Quinones reaffirmed our core beliefs in doing the right thing no matter who is looking. More than 50 new designees met with us Sunday afternoon for a reception as well.

We will continue our celebration for new designees in Iowa at the I-Day conferment on November 10, 2016 at Prairie Meadows. Our topic for I-Day will focus on Personal Lines, why it is important to both you and the industry, and what the future holds.

We will be installing smoke detectors with the Des Moines Fire Department for a Good Works project, October 8, 2016. Smoke detectors were purchased with our Good Works funds from the golf charity event in July. If you are still interested in helping, please contact me.  [click to continue…]

October 2014 President's Message2014 Chapter Invite

September was a very busy month for our chapter. On Wednesday September 17th, board members volunteered to run The Institutes/CPCU Society’s information booth at the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa (IIAI) 108th Annual Convention Tradeshow. While it was a great opportunity to spread the word and encourage agents to work on the designation, the most fulfilling aspect was seeing all the CPCUs representing their companies, working the room, and networking. The insurance industry is huge in Iowa, yet it feels like such a small community.

The next day at our September Chapter meeting, I was able to enjoy a beer while learning about the boiler and machinery breakdown hazards that craft brewers face today. It was a great experience for our underwriters and claims personnel to see how our industry’s products can help businesses (like our very own Exile Brewing Company) in a time of need.

To cap off the busy month, on September 24th at Glen Oaks, the chapter hosted a Professional Development seminar “Who’s Pushing Your Buttons?”- a look at the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicators and how to apply them to your job. It was a wonderful presentation with useful information.

Our chapter Vice President Kim Smetzer also traveled to Anaheim, CA to support the induction of our 36 New Designees. We will get our own opportunity to recognize these high achievers at the upcoming Insurance Industry (I-Day) on Friday November 7th at the Prairie Meadows Event & Conference Center in Altoona, IA.

With such a busy September, is there anything left for the year? You bet! Keep reading the Chaptergram and checkout the website for all the upcoming events. We hope to see you soon!
