Annual Golf Outing

by Robert Conroy, CPCU, CIC on August 3, 2017

On Thursday, August 3rd the Iowa CPCU Chapter will host their annual golf outing at Willow Creek Golf Club in West Des Moines, IA. This annual 18-hole best shot event will provide an opportunity for CPCU Society members and their family and friends to get together in a fun and relaxed environment while also giving back to the community. All proceeds from the event will be used to help fund a fire safety house that will travel around to local schools and events to help teach fire safety.

You do not need to be a CPCU to participate! The entry fee will include green fees, range balls, use of a cart, and a cocktail hour with appetizers afterward (starting at approximately 4:30). Prizes will be awarded! We will try our best to get incomplete foursomes matched up.

All registrations and sponsorships can be paid via credit card on the Eventbrite website (link below) or via check. Checks can be made out to Iowa CPCU Society Chapter and sent to:

Register for the May Meeting

April was a busy month for some of us in the CPCU Chapter. For starters, we had a great chapter meeting in a location with a fantastic view and included amazing speakers.I always enjoy meetings that include a speakers’ panel. This meeting focused on career development and included the following executives from local insurance companies: Kent Rosenberg, AJ Gallagher; Dianna Taylor, Nationwide; and Tanya Wentzel, EMC Insurance. It was very interesting to listen to the paths each speaker took and obtain perspectives from both the company and agent side.

One week later, a few us went to the annual CPCU Leadership Summit in Baltimore, MD. If you have never been to a Leadership Summit, you really should give it a try. The meeting is a lot smaller than the annual meeting and is mainly at-tended by local and national volunteers. It is also set up to focus more on networking, with lots of formal and informal gatherings, as well as smaller sessions. For the past few years, and like this year, the meeting focused more on the chapters and learning how to be more involved. However, I am excited to say that next year the Leadership Summit will be bringing back the educational and CE sessions! So if you are looking for a great CPCU event, that costs less and provides as much as the Annual Meeting, then we’ll see you next year at the Leadership Summit. The venue will be released soon, so look for more information from The Society. [click to continue…]

November starts the busiest time of the year for all of us. The week of I-Day will be quite the week as we elect our next President. Additionally, I will visit companies across Iowa the day before I-Day to congratulate the new designees on November 9th.

Veterans Day and Thanksgiving also make this month special. Thank you to our Veterans who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Did you know that in 2019 this tradition of honoring our Veterans will be 100 years old?

We will continue our celebration for new designees at the I-Day conferment, on November 10, 2016 at Prairie Meadows starting at 8:00 AM. We still have space available for our meeting so sign up soon. Our topic will be Personal Lines and why it is important to you, the industry and what the future holds. We will also present the Burkhalter Award and the Circle of Excellence Award at this event.  [click to continue…]
