In September 2011, Mr. Howell moved from Houston, Texas to join the POET Bio-refining – Coon Rapids, Iowa facility as the general manager, and a resident of the community of Coon Rapids.

Prior to moving to Coon Rapids, Mr. Howell worked for Shell Oil within their Criterion Catalyst and Technology business group. His last assignment (5yrs) for Shell was as the Venture Manager, delegated Project President for the concept development and construction of a world scale catalyst plant located in Louisiana.  His first assignment with Shell was as the West Coast General Manager for two catalyst plants located in California for about 7 years.

Mr. Howell began his operation’s career with BASF (Engelhard) in 1986 as an Environmental Engineer.

From 1979 to 1991, Mr. Howell proudly served in the United States military, receiving a commendation medal from General Schwarzkopf for organizing the plans and documents which comprise the doctrinal foundation of the Command’s Noncombatant Evacuation Operations contingency plans.

Today, Mr. Howell continues to serve as the general manager for the Coon Rapids Bio-refining facility, and a Director for Iowa Renewable Fuels Association.  Mr. Howell and his wife, Katherine, are very active in the Coon Rapids community, church activities and international missions.  This year they traveled to Belize with Volunteers in Missions to help with several projects in support of the Methodist School.

In addition, to managing an ethanol facility and our active involvement in the community, Mr. Howell and his wife are very active in politics.  Recently, they visited the Iowa Capital to meet with our elected officials and discuss current renewable fuel issues and opportunities.  In May, they will travel to Washington DC in an effort to carry the renewable fuels message to our National Officials.
