CPCU Meals from the Heartland 2011

by Robert Conroy, CPCU, CIC on August 22, 2011

We would like to end the summer with a bang and kick-off our chapter’s 2011-2012 season with a huge volunteer effort at Meals from the Heartland’s annual packaging event in downtown Des Moines at Hy-Vee Hall.  Our organization has committed to helping out on Thursday, September 1st from 3 – 5 p.m.  Last year we had an awesome response with 32 members from our chapter volunteering!  We are hoping for even more volunteers this year.

In case you are not familiar with this cause, Meals from the Heartland is a wonderful non-profit organization founded locally in September of 2008.  The goal of this organization is to package meals for delivery to starving people around the world.  Last year, over 14,000 volunteers packaged 4.5 million meals that were shipped to Haiti, Jamaica, South Africa, and New Mexico.  This is one of the largest humanitarian events of its kind in the United States.

Did you know that 18,000 children die each day from hunger-related causes?  Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time to help make a difference.  Get to know your colleagues on a whole new level!

Please join us for a fun and rewarding experience on the 1st of September.  To sign up or if you have any questions about this opportunity, please contact Jeff Wilson (
