September 2015 President's Message
As the Iowa State Fair wraps up, the kids return to school, and summer quickly fades into Fall and football season, it’s time to get back into the second half of our 2015 CPCU programming. We will have some intriguing topics over the next few months that you won’t want to miss.
Congratulations to the CPCUs who were inducted into the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame on May 19th: Bruce Kelley, Jennie LeGates, and Richard Friedman. All of these individuals have made a significant impact on our industry here in Iowa.
Please join me in extending thanks to Rose Nwaturuocha of Nationwide for her volunteer service to the chapter over the past several years. Rose served our chapter in many capacities and most recently held the position of Chapter Vice President. She recently accepted a new position within Nationwide which required her to step down from her volunteer position with the Iowa Chapter. Thank you, Rose, for your service to the Chapter and best of luck in your new position!
The Chapter had some entertaining events happen over the summer. In June we hosted an Iowa Cubs outing at Principal Park and the Good Works Committee arranged a volunteer opportunity at the Des Moines Animal Rescue League. In July we had our annual charity golf outing benefiting Blank Children’s Hospital-Fire Safety House. In August, the Good Works Committee arranged a volunteer opportunity with Meals From the Heartland. Thank you to all involved in arranging these events and thank you to all the participants, too!
We kick off our programming this Fall as our Chapter meetings resume September 17th with Gary Slater presenting on Iowa State Fair with a focus on risk control and a behind the scenes perspective. Please join us at the West Des Moines Hilton Garden Inn at 11:30 am that day for what is sure to be an interesting presentation.
November 12th will be the annual Insurance Industry Day (I-Day) held at the downtown Des Moines Marriott. Guest speakers will include Charlie Kingdollar, Vice President of General Re’s emerging issues unit, and Corey Dunbar, Assistant Vice President of the Treaty Division at Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. You won’t want to miss this event.
We encourage you to be an active member of the Iowa Chapter where you have the opportunity to network, learn, and give back to the community. We look forward to seeing you at one or all of our upcoming events!
