December 2014 President’s Message

What a year it has been!

When I took the role of President, I challenged the chapter’s Board of Directors and volunteer leaders: Try something new, look outside the box and shake things up a bit. Just because we’ve done something as a chapter one way, doesn’t mean we have to keep doing it in the same manner. As we work to shake it up, some things will work and some will flop…. but that is okay!

That explains a lot about the past 12 months, doesn’t it?! We’ve been to breweries and country clubs; gathered over breakfast, lunch, happy hours and dinners. We learned about leadership, biorefining, BBQ and working with the blind. The chapter assembled Meals from the Heartland, donated smoke detectors, played golf and landscaped for a cause.

Then came I-Day… at a casino! Okay, so it was in the convention center attached to a casino. Different day of the week, different room layout, and an amazing lineup of speakers had us all held captive and engaged. According to the exit surveys, I am not alone in ranking it one of the best I-Days in recent years.

I want to thank my fellow board members and all the chapter leaders for their service this past year. As you took the challenge head-on, I could see your passion for this chapter and the industry. What a fun year it’s been.

I am honored to have worked with you. I am honored to know you. I am forever grateful for the experience.
