January 2013 President’s Message

Happy New Year! This is a time of looking back and reflecting on our accomplishments and a time to look forward to a new year, setting new goals. Maybe one of your goals is enhancing your career credentials and making a difference in your world. What better way to achieve these goals than becoming involved in the Iowa CPCU SocietyChapter. You can attend meetings, volunteer and become involved in the chapter, and network with your fellow CPCUs. Don’t wait, get
started this month and attend our January meeting at the downtown Des Moines Embassy Club (Ruan Building). Our speaker is Callista Gould, a business consultant who will give us proper techniques for networking etiquette, tips on how to remember names, and how to be professional while eating and drinking.

Last month, we had an informative meeting with Dr. Weisbart from the Insurance Information Institute, the media go-to source for industry information. He provided us with an economic forecast and the impact it will have on our industry. You can download a copy of Dr. Weisbart’s slides by clicking here. We also enjoyed a holiday social at the ever popular Wakonda Club and raised money and brought canned goods for the Des Moines Area Religious Council food pantry. Thank you to all of those of you who participated.

By now, you should have received your 2013 dues renewal invoice from the CPCU Society. If you did not receive your invoice, please email CPCU Member Resources and ask them to mail one to you. Membership cards for 2013 will begin being mailed in February.

Look for information regarding our chapter scholarships in this issue of our ChapterGram. Who couldn’t use $1,500 toward their educational expenses? This is just another benefit of being a CPCU member, and a way to encourage young people to consider a career in insurance.

May 2013 be your best year yet!
