Register for the May Meeting

April was a busy month for some of us in the CPCU Chapter. For starters, we had a great chapter meeting in a location with a fantastic view and included amazing speakers.I always enjoy meetings that include a speakers’ panel. This meeting focused on career development and included the following executives from local insurance companies: Kent Rosenberg, AJ Gallagher; Dianna Taylor, Nationwide; and Tanya Wentzel, EMC Insurance. It was very interesting to listen to the paths each speaker took and obtain perspectives from both the company and agent side.

One week later, a few us went to the annual CPCU Leadership Summit in Baltimore, MD. If you have never been to a Leadership Summit, you really should give it a try. The meeting is a lot smaller than the annual meeting and is mainly at-tended by local and national volunteers. It is also set up to focus more on networking, with lots of formal and informal gatherings, as well as smaller sessions. For the past few years, and like this year, the meeting focused more on the chapters and learning how to be more involved. However, I am excited to say that next year the Leadership Summit will be bringing back the educational and CE sessions! So if you are looking for a great CPCU event, that costs less and provides as much as the Annual Meeting, then we’ll see you next year at the Leadership Summit. The venue will be released soon, so look for more information from The Society.

Speaking of the Annual Meeting, I want to give one quick shout out to a great opportunity for free registration to the Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL this September. The CPCU Society’s Diversity Committee is sponsoring the 2017 CPCU Society Diversity Engagement Video Contest and the winner receives registration for themselves and a guest, and $500! Check this out and show off how you promote diversity!

As mentioned in prior meetings and articles, we are changing things up a little bit this summer. First, we are having a free picnic on July 22, at Westchester Park in Des Moines, starting at 11 am. We will have the Fire Safety House there for our use from 11-1, so bring the entire family. Also, we are hosting a small event prior to this for Big Brothers Big Sisters from 9-11, allowing them to experience the Fire Safety House, too! Please take a moment to sign up for this event so we can get an estimated count. We are also looking for 5-6 people who can help assist with the Fire Safety House, so please reach out to me if you are willing (haugera@nationwide.com). And, we are moving our golf event to a new time and location. Plans are still being hammered out, but the date is August 3, so keep an eye out for more details. Remember, this event is what allows us to be a premier sponsor of the Fire Safety House.

As this will be the final ChapterGram for a couple months, I just want to take a moment to thank you for being a part of this great chapter. It can be easy to forget how much we do as a chapter, but every time I go to a national event, I am reminded as people constantly want to know how we do it. My response is simple, “It all is made possible by our amazing volunteers.” So again, thank you for your dedication! Enjoy your summer and all it has to offer.
